Santa Clarita Receives Final EZ Designation

While there is no memo yet from HCD, The Santa Clarita Valley Signal reports an item within its local news that the new Enterprise Zone is being given an official start date of July 1.

I’m hearing through the grapevine that HCD will not be making its conditional designation announcements today. Looks like we may have to wait as long as Nov. 8 or 9.

HCD is scheduled to announce the 23 new conditionally designated Enterprise Zones tomorrow, October 27. Just for fun I’ll make a guess at what I think they will be and then see how close I can get (in no particular order):

Long Beach Enterprise Zone Update

A press release from Long Beach states that they have submitted their application for a new Enterprise Zone.
A major difference in the existing Long Beach Enterprise Zone and the proposed Enterprise Zone is the size. The current designation covers approximately 26.5 square miles while the proposed Enterprise Zone is approximately 41.4 square miles.

Sacramento Enterprise Zone Update

From the Sacramento Business Journal:
The County Board of Supervisors approved new boundaries to the Northgate/Norwood enterprise zone on Sept. 5. The new zone would include the 1,440 acres in the current zone, set to expire in October, and add 2,280 acres of territory in the Richards Boulevard area and the Union Pacific downtown railyard.

Trouble For L.A. Zone?

The Los Angeles Daily News has this interesting article describing some of the technical issues that Pacoima and the Los Angeles Northeast Valley Enterprise Zone are having with regard to their application for new zone designation:

The Fresno Bee has an interesting story detailing how the County and other local jurisdictions are teaming up to hire consultants to prepare applications for new Enterprise Zone designations.
