While the Governor is scheduled to release his revised budget proposal on Monday the 16th, the Assembly Republicans have just released details of their budget proposal. Its main features are that it includes no new taxes, maintains K-12 education funding, and relies on higher than anticipated revenue. It also leaves the Enterprise Zone program alone. Here is a good review of the proposal and some of its political hurdles by KQED’s John Myers. The PDF of the Republicans’ document can be found here.
In the mean time, a coalition of various business groups released their own five-point budget recommendation yesterday. Here their document, and their take on the Enterprise Zone program was:
We support the need to fix Redevelopment Area and Enterprise Zone programs to prevent abuses, but we urge the Governor and the Legislature to fix them in a way that preserves their job generation capacity.
