In his January budget proposal, Governor Brown said that, in addition to pursuing regulatory changes to the Enterprise Zone program, “The Administration will be pursuing further Enterprise Zone reform through legislation.” To date, no further details have been provided.
Amy Wong, writing in Capitol Weekly, has a good summary of the Enterprise Zone story thus far for 2013. Within the article she quotes a spokesperson for the Administration regarding their legislative plans:
“We’ll pursue legislation to address the ineffective programs in the enterprise zone and invest in efforts to encourage job creation and manufacturing,” said Elizabeth Ashford, spokeswoman for Gov. Brown. “It’s too premature to discuss the details of legislation. There are some changes that can be made administratively, without legislation but…we need to pursue legislation to make them more effective.”
